Water for

When using tap water for ornamental fish, chlorine in the tap water must be removed. Fish in general, such as tropical fish, killifish, goldfish, as well as waterside creatures such as shrimp, are weak to Calcium hypochlorite. Not only that but, chlorine may react with excrement of the animals and produce toxic substance. To prevent, chlorine must be removed.
There are several ways to remove calcium hypochlorite. The most easy way is to use a chlorine neutralizer (descaling agent). However, the main ingredient in descaling agents is sodium thiosulfate which is harmful to fish. Miuse in the amount of descaling agent may weaken or kill the fish.
Using appropriate amout of sodium thiosulfate (descaling agent) create a suitable environment for the aquariuim and living species. In the instruction manual, the appropriate amount is specified.
Too much descaling agent
Red Bee Shrimp are said to be more likely to be affected due to they are sensitive. For living species that are sensitive and delicate, we have to e extra careful. Sudden change in water can place a considerable burden on living species, so it is important to take precautions to prevent adding large amount of descaling agent.
Not enough descaling agent
The bacteria in the aquarium will die which leads losing the ability to detoxify ammonia that is in the excrement. This causes poor water quality and weakening living species. Poor water quality leads to bad odor and the possibility of fish having disease increases due to the growth of bacteria.

ATC function to correct values without temperature being a problem ATC has been reviewed and improved to automatically corrects measured values according to the environment. We manage to have a mechanism (patented) that does not exist in the world. Without worrying the environmental or sample temperature, you can get the measurement value.
Waterproof and washable
For ergonomics, ATAGO pursued designing a refractometer that was easy to use and intuitive. First, there was success in evolving from the conventional long-shape optics to a handheld refactometer with a well-balanced shape. The previous elongated shape was unstable and difficult to place the sample on. The PAL was designed specifically to be easy to hold, and won the Good Design Award for "ease of use".
Not only was ease of use important, but thoughts also turned to hygienics. By not adopting the usual grip-style, the PAL's design reduces the amount of grooves that become hotbeds for the breeding of dangerous germs. Since it still has some grooves where the hand must grip the instrument, but to counteract this, ATAGO made the PAL Series resistant to rinsing with water.
On top of all that, ATAGO equipped the PAL with the new technology ELI (Extrenal Light Interference Prefention) so that it is safe to use outdoors. Mainstream digital handheld refractometers carry the risk that measurements taken outside or near windows may be inaccurate due to light interference. During development of the PAL Series, ATAGO's development of the ELI feature reflects all of the comments received from refractometer users in the field.

With time, water becomes more alkaline due to several reasons. A change in pH causes problems such as effects on living organisms and aquatic plants. Even though the water may seem to be clear and clean, you may not realize that it is creating a bad environment for living species. Using pH meter and checking the value regularly is important.
At a typical aquarium, fish are kept in a weak acidic pH range of 6 to 7 and a weak alkaline pH range of 7 to 8. It is important to make sure that the quality and pH of water is close to the actual environment as much as possible. Fish are sensitive to pH changes, so we have to be careful due to fish may go into shock due to sudden changes.

Unbreakable glass electrode, safe and secure
The PAL-pH Plus succeeded in developing a durable glass electrode that can withstand large loads. The risk of contamination and injuries can be reduced and used daily without hesitation. Also, the electrode does not require a storage solution.
Easy to clean with full flat sample stage, and hygienic It is a pH meter with IP65 that can be "washed" under running tap water. PAL-pH Plus is easy to wash because the measurement unit is completely flat and samples can be easily wiped off. It easy to maintain and clean, so contamination can be avoided.
Unconsumable KCL liquid Electrode’s internal liquid, KCl is inseparable with the pH meter. Ordinary pH meters are designed so that KCl will flow little by little, and it will need to be replaced and filled regularly as it flows out. We made every effort to figure out how to make KCl last longer. With PAL-pH Plus, you do not have to worry about KCl depletion.
Measure merely with 3 drops The PAL-pH Plus can measure pH with only 0.6 mL of sample and the measurement time is as fast as 3 seconds. This is an advance that dip-style pH meters did not offer. There is no need to prepare a beaker to hold the sample, and the trouble of preparation and cleaning can be omitted. Of course, there is no need to purchase a large volume of calibration standard.
